Cardplayers

Cardplayers: Three-Kingdoms’ Story

122 X 161 cm     ac     2007

Here, three card players are the subjects of this painting-an obvious political metamorphosis of three of the main superpowers of our time. The U.S. is represented by a Yankee, China by a folk image of the God of Money, and a strong laborer symbolizes the formerly Communist Russia. But others are edging up to the plate as well: Japan-represented by a kabuki player peeping behind the Chinese Mandarin; and France-represented by the background pattern originally by Henri Matisse-hold a silent presence. Who will be the winner of this card game?
