Venezuela Pavilion

97 X 130 cm     ac     2010/9/13

The Venezuela Pavilion is in the geometric shape of a “Mobius strip,” or an inverted cylinder. It is structured in the form of an “8” – a symbolic number both in China and Venezuela, with the eight stars of Bolivar recently incorporated into the Venezuelan flag. The sloped roof is covered with flowers, and outside the structure is a statue of Venezuela’s hero, the “great liberator of thought” — Simon Bolivar, riding a horse.

The Pavilion also featured an interactive live transmission between Venezuela and the Shanghai Expo. Dr. Chen includes five portraits of the public in this painting, as well as images of traditional folk reclining on hammocks, and some Incan print completed by Chinese brush.
