Papua New Guinea Pavilion97 X 130 cm ac 2010/9/24 At the Shanghai World Expo, the Pacific Joint Pavilion showcased the beauty and culture of 14 Pacific countries, with its theme: “Pacific Ocean – Spring of Inspiration.” Of these exhibitors, Papua New Guinea was the most dominant, with the largest population (6.73 million people), the most land (460,000 square km), and the most distinctive culture. It became an independent Commonwealth in 1975. In this artwork, an indigenous person takes the forefront, with face painted red, yellow and black; wearing a headress and necklace of pig teeth and feathers. Surrounding him are four quadrants of color, expressing native tattoo designs, oceanic creative arts, the tropical landscape dotted with coconut palms on a beach, and people singing, dancing, fishing and diving. |
