Outside Mondrian’s Window in Beijing76 X 76 cm oc 2007 In this painting, Dr. Chen distilled some of the towering buildings in Beijing into small rectangles, and adopted the Temple of Heaven into a delicate silhouette of beautiful curves. All of this cityscape one can see outside of an adapted Mondrian-style window, which Chen imitates from Mondrian’s Composition with Red, Blue, and Yellow of 1930. The Temple of Heaven’s beautiful curves harmoniously complement Mondrian’s black straight lines and three primary colors. In fact, such a combination can be considered a wonderful example of East-West convergency in Yin-Yang cooperation. |
