Kwang-Yu, a loyal and faithful general during the Three Kingdoms time, is the most respected hero in Chinese history. Strong in stature, skillful and courageous in battle, this learned general also possessed great virtue and incorruptible character. He was the model of loyalty as an officer, as well as an upright man in civil society.His honorable conduct has been recounted in many historical books and novels, and many people even worship him as a “divine being”. In fact, he becomes the “protector” of those who worship him.In this painting, Kwang-Yu, the Divine Protector, is flanked on both sides by Terracotta Warriors. They all protect China, symbolically represented by Tiananmen Gate and the Temple of Heaven.
