Peaceful Arising

The brilliant red silhouette of the Temple of Heaven appears firmly in the horizon, symbolizing China’s reemergence as a superpower in the world today. The reaction to this phenomenon is twofold: welcome vs. fear; cooperation vs. containment. Although China continuously proclaims her “peaceful arising,” many scholars and experts worry about her ever-increasing military budget.

Employing Van Gogh’s “fishing boats” and Magritte’s “dove,” Dr. Chen intends to have faith in China’s “peaceful arising,” as a goodwill attitude can contribute towards shaping the situation towards a positive outcome.

For the good of all of humanity, it is our wish that China fulfill her three goodwill measures: harmony for the (Chinese) society, peaceful reconciliation for the Taiwan Strait, and peace for the world.
