The “Sensual City” of the France Pavilion showcases the sights, smells, tastes, sounds and feel of France – visitors will be able to admire French gardens and paintings, smell French perfume, taste French cuisine, touch the cool water of pools and fountains, and watch clips from classic French films to soak up the glamour of France. One of the main highlights is an opportunity to witness a gorgeous display of bridal fashion design and a romantic French wedding — new couples will tie the knot in the beautiful French-style garden within, composed of 999 roses paving a red carpet.
Dr. T.F. Chen lived and studied in Paris for more than 12 years, earning his Ph.D in Art History and M.A. in French Literature from La Sorbonne, while simultaneously studying painting at L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts. His Post-Modern artwork and Neo-Iconographic style often takes icons from East and West, past and present to create a new meaning. Here, Dr. Chen takes icons from David’s masterpiece The ,Coronation of Napoleon, to bless the bride getting married. Accompanying the painting are other romantic images of the American film star Marilyn Monroe and some subjects from Renoir’s works. Pretty green patterns and designs echo the “green environment” theme of the French Pavilion. |
