Marc Chagall (1887–1985), born Moise Zakarrovich Chagall, was a renowned Russian-French artist of Belarusian Jewish descent. He moved between various schools of thought, including Impressionism, Cubism, and Abstract Expressionism, and his works encompassed painting, drawing, stained glass, stage sets, and ceramics. His paintings are characterized by dreamlike, symbolic techniques and colors; the term “Surrealism” was coined by Apollinaire to describe his work.
