Edgar Degas (1834-1917)

It was natural to invite Degas to join the club after Renoir, as both were excellent at figure painting.

Like Manet, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Renoir, Degas depicted everyday life in Paris in his famous “Ambassador’s Café Concerts,” the heart of European culture, cafés, horse races, cabaret performances, theatrical performances, etc. (1976-77). In the spectacular scenes of musicians and audiences, such as forms and colors assembled in a kaleidoscope, he presented soft female figures with brutal use of theatrical lighting. In his later works, Degas, with his eccentric views, offered a new interpretation of the human form, primarily in pastel.
