Auguste Renoir

When Renoir was invited to join the Van Gogh Art Club, he brought two models to dance before him to complete “Village Dance” (1883). A female model, after bathing (1888), sits on the edge of the bed. Renoir was a prolific painter.

In the open window, we can see “The Box” (La Loge) (1874), depicting two elegantly dressed spectators enjoying an opera. This is a masterpiece of Renoir’s portraiture, exhibited in the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874, making him an important Impressionist painter. Renoir created many masterpieces with soft, bright brushstrokes, such as “The Mill at Gallette” (1876), “Madame Chatontier and Her Children” (1878), and “Luncheon by the Boat” (1881). These paintings are characterized by light, bright brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and exquisite, sensual quality, imbuing the new society with beauty and “the pleasures of life.”
