Taking the essential portion of Chang Zhetuan’s famous painting, the arch bridge of the “Qingming-shang-he-tu” (prosperous cityscape in spring), Dr. Chen worked on this canvas.
 
In this painting, Dr. Chen utilizes his Neo-Iconography style to illustrate the bridge from the past to the future, from West to East, from the old world of leisure to the new ultramodern world of cityscapes and high technology. On the near bank of the river, we see some famous subjects from Seurat, Gauguin, and Monet; on the far bank, we see some of the cityscape of Shanghai with its Oriental Pearl Tower, as well as the “Oriental Crown” of the Expo. Chen paints this whole scene beautifully, in Pointillism fashion.
