Saudi Arabia Pavilion

146.8 X 122.4 cm     mm/c     2010/8/8

The Saudi Arabia Pavilion features a fine centerpiece: a huge hanging boat 91 meters long, 47 meters wide, shaped like a half moon. The “moon boat” is loaded with dreams and friendship. Saudi Arabia, the homeland of the date palm tree, has reproduced the scene of an oasis in the desert by replanting palm trees on the rooftop garden, creating a hanging garden; and setting up modern and traditional Bedouin tents among them. The pavilion showcases the Arabian wisdom in creating wonderful city life in spite of the severe natural environment without rivers or lakes. Highlights of its exhibition include four types of cities: the City of Energy, the City of Oasis, the Ancient City with Rich Cultural Heritage, and the City of Fast-growing Economy. Inside, lies another of the highlights of the Expo 2010: a “Flight over the Treasures of Saudi Arabia”experienced using immersion screen technology, multi-projected on a 1,600 square-meter screen — one of the world’s largest.Visitors would queue on line for at least four hours to enter this Pavilion and experience the grand magnificence of the Kingdom, and its natural and cultural treasures.

In this artwork, we see a glimpse of the Pavilion’s structure and a flash of the multimedia show within. Rich Arabic geometrical latticework is featured to the left. The first floor of the pavilion is a garden with both Chinese and Saudi trees growing, a symbol of the friendship between the two nations.
